About Me: Boring Bill, what has brought me to where I am
By the very title of my blog I'm saying I like to read and especially like to read historical books, the more factual the better. I suppose it began in my formative years with the stories my paternal Grandfather used to tell his Grandchildren. He was already in the Army when the Second World War broke out, his regiment was the Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, or KOYLI's as they were commonly known before he re-mustered to the fledgling Parachute Regiment that Churchill was anxious to form.
Through those stories I read boys comic's such as Victor and Warlord and began an understanding, albeit a shallow one of battles and campaigns. When I was older I joined the Army Cadets then the RAF as well as the military book club. These were the days before the internet when it was all done by letter and slowly my book collection built up and came with me as I moved round the military world. My love affair with books continued and has up to the present day.
I shall be reviewing books, lots of them over the immediate future in this blog, as well as writing books myself which will be about my time and experiences in the Police and my views on Crime, Punishment and society. These will be the opinions I've developed over the years from my observations and experiences of meeting the people in our communities, especially the vulnerable and victims of crime as well as the perpetrators of these crimes and how I think they should be dealt with. Woke it will not be I suppose it will read something like a cross between the Sweeney and Life on Mars but it wont be dull.
I'm sure all these things will produce conversation pieces with a great many people who are welcome to share their views and experiences on this site too. So get those sandbags ready and be prepared to swing the lamp.
