The Loathsome and Odious sin of Drunkenness
If you think today's punishment for drunkenness is a bit harsh things were much more precarious for a follower of good drinking in the 1600's.
'Anyone found drunk shall be fined five shillings or spend six hours in the stocks'
Drunkenness Act 1606
In case your thinking five bob's a bit expensive and are considering a sit down for six hours your completely at the mercy of the passers by and whatever they might throw at you and being that the sewage system wasn't what it is today they were never short of readily available ammunition.
